The name "Future Farmers of America" was officially changed in 1988 to "The National FFA Organization." This change was a significant step in recognizing the evolving mission of the organization, which extended beyond just farming to encompass all aspects of agricultural education and leadership development. The new name reflects the diverse careers and opportunities available in the agricultural industry today, including areas such as technology, business, and environmental science. It was crucial for the organization to align its identity with the broader agricultural landscape and to appeal to a wider audience, including students interested in various fields within agriculture. By adopting this new name, the organization embraced its commitment to preparing members for leadership roles in all sectors of agriculture, not just farming.
